A senior police officer was, on Thursday, February 16, stabbed to death by a woman while conducting a solo raid.
The incident happened in Rumuruti, Laikipia County, where the cop received a tip-off from his sources prompting him to raid a local liquor den.
During the raid, a confrontation ensued with a woman who reportedly was one of the brewers. She then picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the chest.
Preliminary reports further indicated that the senior cop was not armed during the raid.
Confiming the incident, Laikipia County Police commander John Nyoike noted that a boda boda rider reported the stabbing incident.
After receiving the report, a team of police officers rushed to the scene and found that their colleague had been fatally stabbed.
“It is reported that the officer had received information that there were some jerricans of the illicit brew that were to be delivered at a den in the area. He decided to conduct a raid but was attacked by a brewer,” Nyoike stated.
“He moved to the scene alone and a confrontation ensued. We have reports that the woman picked a knife and stabbed him on his left side of the chest,” he added.
Following the incident, police launched a manhunt for the suspect and her accomplices, who are reportedly still at large.
Police are trailing a motorbike which allegedly ferried her from the crime scene. Law enforcement officers also gathered other evidence to help them file the murder case.
The deceased’s body was moved to a nearby mortuary in Nyahururu Town, awaiting postmortem results.
This incident came after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki ordered an operation against illicit brew in the country.
