  • A woman identified as Getrude Shirivwa on Wednesday, February 22 made a passionate appeal to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to assist her family pay the mortuary bill for her brother.

Through a video on social media, Gertrude who had a photo of her beside Sakaja during the campaigns sought the governor’s audience.

“Sakaja I have been looking for you for some time. All avenues to reach out to you have been futile,

We are stuck as a family and have no one to turn to. We just need a twelve-seater vehicle to transport the body, help us Sakaja!” she decried.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Getrude lamented that the bills had taken a toll on the family.

“My brother David Miheso succumbed at the Kiambu Level 5 hospital where he has been at the mortuary for a month.

Doctors have asked us to hasten the process of footing the bill as the body has overstayed in the mortuary,” she disclosed.

Getrude also stated that the cumulative bills inclusive of transport would amount to Ksh 99,000.

“The body has been lying in the mortuary for thirty days now,

The hospital charges Ksh 700 per day. On transportation, booking a 33-seater minibus will cost us Ksh 58000. As a family, we have been stretched to the limit,” she added.

She also stated that they hoped to get the governor’s help in order to proceed to the funeral at their home county in Tiriki Kaimosi, Vihiga County.

Her plea to Sakaja came on the backdrop of Nairobi County asking Kenyans to collect 292 unclaimed bodies from City morgues.

In a public notice, County Secretary Jairus Musumba stated that the bodies were in three key hospitals managed by the city.

“The following 28 bodies are lying at the Mama Lucy hospital funeral home, 50 at the Mbagathi hospital funeral home and 214 at the City Mortuary from the date of admission awaiting collection.
