Former Gender and Youth Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo will appear in court between May 28 and May 30 to answer corruption-related cases.
Omollo, who served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been listed to appear before the court almost a year after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) made an application to withdraw her cases.
The former PS had been accused of the alleged loss of Ksh468 million at the National Youth Service (NYS), which was under her purview.
“This case relates to corruption and conspiracy to defraud charges against the former Permanent Secretary and employees of NYS,” ODPP on Monday, May 27, spoke of the case summary.
The case involves the Kenyan government versus the PS and 32 others, who are mostly former employees of NYS.
In 2023, the ODPP applied on two separate occasions to withdraw the case against PS Omollo.
When making an application before a Milimani anti-corruption court, DPP stated that none of the witnesses brought forward implicated Omollo directly or indirectly.
Additionally, the DPP told the court that the alleged loss of money happened before she assumed the position on December 18, 2015.
In July 2023, a month after the case collapsed, the anti-corruption court marked it as withdrawn.
It should be noted that at the time, only Omollo was excused from the case, with the prosecution proceeding with co-accused cases.
ODPP did not indicate if PS Omollo had new charges preferred against her or if it was the co-accused who would stand trial.
The case stems from questionable multibillion-shilling bills incurred by NYS in the 2013/2014 financial year.
