UDA MP Warns Gen Z Against Engaging in Talks With Ruto

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba on Saturday warned the youth against caving and agreeing to hold talks with President William Ruto as proposed by the government terming it as an exercise in futility.

In her warning, the legislator argued that the National Multi-Sectoral Forum (NMSF), instituted by the government was a theatric created to buy time.

“The multisectoral committee will be another theatric to buy time and scatter the already compounding voice of the disappointed youth of Kenya. It’s my opinion that this will be another round of pounding water in a pot. No matter what energy is inputted, no Ugali can come out of it”, she stated.

Wamuchomba further argued that the youth are likely to emerge from the talks without having achieved anything substantial.

Through the statement shared on her platforms, she particularly referenced the NADCO report authored by representatives from the ruling Kenya Kwanza Coalition and Azimio.

Wamuchomba claimed that the NADCO report did not achieve anything significant and is still gathering dust months after being submitted to the relevant parties.

The legislator also referenced the recent fertilizer scandal in the country where farmers were exposed and ended up acquiring substandard fertiliser from the government subsidy programme.

According to Wamuchomba,  the report from the selected committee was also not adopted in parliament, which has since been cited as a huge failure.

The legislator further pointed out that the youth were better off pushing for what they want to achieve by clamouring for a constitutional change.

“To the Gen Zs, this is your constitutional moment, those of us before you do agree, we were deceived, subdued and lost it; a reason why systems aren’t functioning right now in your favour, no wonder you are up and about greeting us in your absurd styles.

My advice is to seize it and press for change . We are looking up to you from afar”, she stated.

The creation of the  multi-sectoral forum which was announced by the President on Saturday, seeks to bring together a wide  range of stakeholders who will participate in dialogue with government representatives.

In a letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Head of the Public Service, Felix Koskei, initiated the process by inviting the youth who through their representatives will form part of the 100-member steering committee.
