A viral video of Lawyer Miguna Miguna that has gone viral on social media platforms and private messaging applications such as WhatsApp and Telegram did not occur in November 2022.
The video purports to show Miguna being roughed up by a rowdy youth who attempted to eject him from a hotel in Kisumu County.
A review of social media platforms shows that the video was recently published by a Facebook user known as Takaba TV, with over 28,000 followers.
Takaba TV, which posted the video on October 28, 2022, claimed in a caption that “Miguna arrives in Kisumu! The last time Dr. Miguna Miguna visited Kisumu he did not like it.”
The video has since attracted over 363,000 views and 4,000 likes.
It has since been established that the claims are not factual and that events recorded in the video took place on August 25, 2012, and not during his recent visit as depicted.
Those who interrupted Lawyer Miguna’s press conference were Kisumu youth who protested his opposition to ODM leader Raila Odinga in the build-up to the 2013 General Election.
“Get in your car and leave immediately,” the agitated youth are heard shouting at him as they dragged him out.
However, Miguna did not in any way provoke the rowdy youth who wanted him to leave the county after he marketed his book, Peeling Back the Mask; A Quest for Justice in Kenya.
It was a tough day for Miguna, who also lost his trademark cap and shoe during the fracas.
Miguna toured Kisumu on Friday, October 28, to a warm reception, after returning to the country from exile.
The self declared revolution leader was received by former Kisumu County senator, Fred Outa, and other leaders who ditched Raila for President William Ruto.
“I am from Kisumu County, the former Nyanza Province. I understand that some cartels and despots claimed that I was not a citizen of the Republic of Kenya,” Miguna lamented.
In subsequent TV interviews, Miguna promised to liberate the Luo community from what he termed as political slavery.
