Top Kenyan Politicians Who Own Choppers[LIST]

  • The affluence of most Kenyan politicians is often seen during the electioneering period when they flex their muscles in a bid to woe the electorate. 

    While most Kenyan politicians are well known for their high-end lifestyle, some have taken the luxury a notch higher by owning choppers.

    Kenyans.co.ke compiled a list of some of Kenyan MPs who own choppers.

    David Pkosing

    The Pokot South Member of Parliament (MP) was on Thursday, February 16 arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over funding and enabling banditry activities in the North Rift.

    DCI further questioned the lawmaker over an alleged white chopper that he owns and which is used to provide supplies to the bandits. 

    However, through his lawyer Danstan Omari, Pkosing refuted the allegations of owning a mysterious white chopper that reportedly landed in bandits’ hideouts supplying them with weapons.

    Nevertheless, Pkosing confessed to owning a chopper but of different colours to those described by the DCI. 

    “The green and white chopper is mine, the white chopper that is doing rounds on social media is not mine. Is it wrong for a Pokot to own a chopper?” Posed Pkosing.

    Uhuru Kenyatta

    The former president owns three choppers registered as Eurocopter AS350B3e, 5Y JNM, and 5Y NMJ. Flex Aviation manages the helicopters.

    The Euro copter AS350B3e, now Airbus Helicopters H125, is a single-engine light utility helicopter originally designed and manufactured in France by Aerospatiale and Euro copter. In North America, the AS350 is marketed as the AStar. 

    William Ruto

    The current head of state owns five helicopters operated by Kwae Island Holdings. They are registered as Eurocopter AS350B3e, 5Y DSM, 5Y DSN, Eurocopter EC130B4, and 5Y DSC.

    The Airbus AS350B is a single-engine light utility variant of the Euro copter AS350 helicopter. It boasts night vision capabilities. Ruto is also said to own over 5 choppers in his Wilson airport hanger.

    Raila Odinga

    The Azimio la Umoja Coalition leader who has two choppers recently acquired five more choppers worth Ksh500 million as part of his preparations for the 2022 general elections.

    He owns Eurocopter EC 130 B4, 5Y-DSB, and 5Y HOD. Furthermore, the former Prime Minister owns a high-performance Bell 407 chopper with a massive space cabin. It is designed to detect terror attacks, an exemplary safety approach for him.

    Musalia Mudavadi

    The prime cabinet secretary acquired a helicopter in 2016 to aid in his campaign for the country’s top seat.

    He was able to attend more than three functions in a day using the chopper that became a key asset throughout the campaign period.

    Currently, Mudavadi owns two choppers, one of which is a Eurocopter B4 with the registration Number 5Y-TXM. 

    Gideon Moi

    The Kanu Chairman owns the same model chopper as Uhuru’s Eurocopter AS350B2. It is ideal for flying high and transporting heavy loads.

    Furthermore, this model of the chopper is known for its simplicity as well as for being a reliable aircraft. 

    In November 2021, Gideon surprised a couple during their wedding with his chopper ride during his visit to Iten.
    He offered a chopper ride to the newlyweds as part of his wedding gift.

    Peter Kenneth

    Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth recently acquired a Cessna Grand Caravan, adding his tally to two helicopters.

    In October 2011, Kenneth demonstrated what must surely be the convenience of having a chopper at the snap of a finger.

    At midday, he attended the UAP Ndakaini marathon before flying to Kitui for another function that was to start at 3 pm. By 6 pm, Kenneth was back in Nairobi in time for dinner, all without breaking a sweat.

    William Kabogo

    Kabogo owns a euro copter AS350B3 registration number 5Y– EXK.

    The former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo previously revealed rare details about his wealth. He disclosed he got amassed wealth during his youth and was among the first people to own a chopper in the country.

    In fact, he said he bought a chopper before renowned billionaires who served in the late Daniel arap Moi’s government such Nicholas Biwott and Simon Nyachae. 

    Ephraim Maina

    Former Nyeri Senator has three choppers to his name. Two Bell choppers with 5Y-PSM and 5Y-MNW registration numbers, and the third one is not yet registered. Others are Bell 407 and Bell 206.

    Jimmy Wanjigi

    Wanjigi is the owner of Eurocopter EC130 which was rumored to be owned by Raila Odinga.

    The French-built helicopter was bought through Jimmy Wanjigi’s company Tyl Limited at a cost of $1.6 million (approximately Ksh168 million).
