  • Three people passed away on Saturday, November 26, after a 14-passenger capacity matatu collided with a high-speed trailer at Nakuru’s Ngata Bridge.

The early morning accident ripped one side of the matatu Nissan van that was carrying an unknown number of passengers.

“The accident at Ngata Bridge Nakuru has so far claimed three lives. Be safe while on the road,” an eyewitness recounted.

At the same time, the trailer also registered major damages on the front and rear wheel sides.

It was not yet ascertained whether the trailer driver was also injured or succumbed to the accident.

Several passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for first-aid treatment.

Marshalls were deployed to the area to man traffic while police sealed the area as investigations into the accident commenced.

Nakuru’s Ngata Bridge is a well-known black spot that has claimed many lives in the past.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga and his wife were involved in an accident at the same spot on December 22, 2018.

The two were then rushed to War Memorial Hospital Nakuru for treatment.

Road safety agency, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), cautioned motorists to drive with caution as they approach the festive season.

NTSA’s recent report detailed that the  total number of victims of road accidents from January to October 30, 2022, increased to 17,550 from 16,642 in a similar period in 2021.

The carnages were attributed to wreckless driving, drink driving and non adherence to other traffic laws.
