During the 2022 Jamhuri Day celebrations on Monday, December 12, President William Ruto awarded His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin the highest presidential honour – the Chief of the Order of Golden Heart (CGH).
He was awarded for his humanitarian and charitable contributions across the world.
Saifuddin is the 53rd Dai Al-Mutlaq (Unrestricted Missionary) of the Dawoodi Bohras community, a subgroup within the Mustaali-Ismaili Shia branch of Islam.
“We appreciate your support of the government’s low-cost housing initiative as well as the ongoing drought,” Ruto remarked.
Some of the areas the religious leader focuses on include education, environmental responsibility, and socioeconomic development.
“Syedna Saifuddin guides his followers across the globe drawing them closer to their faith, culture, and heritage,” noted the Dawoodi Bohras website.
In addition, he teaches the followers the Islamic values of peace and patriotism while emphasising the need for every member of the Bohra community to be productive citizens who contribute positively to the social fabric of their respective countries.
Saifuddin is the spiritual leader of about five million people in 100 countries.
According to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Saifuddin is in the county at President Ruto’s invitation.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin for the top honours and thank the community for the development work they continue to undertake in our country,” he added.
In 2017, President (retired) Uhuru Kenyatta awarded Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin the Elder of Order of the Golden Heart.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto also awarded Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati and commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye.
“In recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, confer Awards and Honours to the aforementioned persons,” read part of the special gazette dated December 12.
