Several people are feared dead after a school bus crashed in Taita Taveta county on Saturday, November 19.
The accident occurred at the Josa black spot between Wundayi and Mwatate.
According to reports, the bus was carrying teachers from Memon school who were coming from the burial of one of their own in Kidaya.
“There is a bad crash at Taita on Josa black spot involving a Memon school bus (which was carrying adults), people have lost their lives (bodies lying on the ground), rescue ongoing,” shared Sikika Road Safety.
The exact number of casualties is yet to be established. Rescue operations are currently underway.
Area residents were also at the scene to help in the rescue operations.
Others rescued from the crashed bus have been rushed to the nearby county hospitals for immediate medical attention.
From the photos shared online, the school bus seems to have rolled several times into a ditch.
The top of the vehicle was severely damaged by the accident that reportedly occurred in the late afternoon.
The accident came after an accident involving a school bus and a lorry collided on August 26 in the Ntharene market area of Meru county.
A pupil, the school driver, and a pedestrian lost their lives when the school bus collided with the lorry.
