Ruto Reveals Instance He Will Fire Linturi

President William Ruto during a press briefing at State House on July 5, 2024.

President William Ruto on Friday, July 5, announced that he was ready to fire Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi should he be found guilty over the fake fertiliser scandal.

Ruto speaking during an engagement at X Spaces reiterated that he did not condone corruption in his administration.

“When there is evidence gathered enough to have the cabinet minister of agriculture to be guilty, I will fire him,” he assured Kenyans.

Ruto added that there were already active cases in court for National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) officials who were implicated in the case.

“The Chief Executive Officer and several staff of NCPB are in court to answer for their involvement in the fertilizer scandal,” he stated.

The Head of State clarified that whereas CS Linturi was accused by a section of Kenyans of playing a part in the fertiliser scandal, he was never taken to court for the same.

As such, Ruto remarked that the moment any of his cabinet secretaries will be taken to court, he would immediately fire him or her.

When the President announced that he would hold an engagement on X, many Kenyans had speculated that he would fire or reshuffle his cabinet.

Ruto minutes into X Spaces clarified that there was no immediate plan to fire any of his cabinet secretaries but he would consider addressing matters raised by the public against his cabinet.

“I will not dissolve Cabinet because I am in the process of looking at things differently,” he told the nation.

Ruto further apologised to Kenyans after he was told that some of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) elected politicians were arrogant when communicating with Kenyans.

In particular, he apologised on behalf of Molo Member of Parliament Kuria Kimani and his Kikuyu counterpart Kimani Ichung’wah who made remarks that did not sit well with the public.
