President William Ruto, on Friday, November 18, approved the Mombasa County government’s plan to build a multi-billion Miritini Industrial Park.
In a ceremony at the Mombasa State Lounge, President William Ruto and Trade CS Moses Kuria presented a license and a permit to Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir.
“It is my great pleasure to announce to the people of Mombasa that the County Government has received its license and permits for the Miritini Industrial Park from the Special Economic Zones Authority,” Abdulswamad announced.
We are now cleared to commence the construction of this SEZ expected to create 10,000 new jobs for our people,” he added.
Mombasa County will now engage private and public business entities through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) programme to begin the construction process.
The Industrial Park will be established on a 600-acre plot at Miritini in Mombasa West to raise exports and create jobs for locals.
Construction of the park is expected to take more than five years, during which over 1,000 people will be employed to work on the site. Nassir plans to undertake the project in phases.
“The Miritini Industrial Park is the first of our PPP initiatives as a County Government aimed at the economic revival of our City,” Abdulswamad confirmed.
He also praised President William Ruto for his steadfast leadership in ensuring that Mombasa County and the coastal region at large fight poverty.
“I take this opportunity, on behalf of the people of Mombasa, to express our gratitude to the President for fast-tracking this process for Mombasa.
“Gratitude too to Moses Kuria, CS Investments, Trade and Industry who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this possible,” Abdulswamad appreciated.
The project was initiated in January 2020 by Mombasa County Government under the leadership of former Governor Ali Hassan Joho.
