“As part of promoting Kenyan fashion industry, the Kenya Embassy Bangkok working with the Association of Thai Silk and Cultural Promotions and Ministry of Culture, invited a Kenyan designer to participate in Thai Silk Fashion Week,” a statement from the embassy read in part.

The event is one of the largest fashion exhibitions in the world and brings together 60 designers from 60 countries around the world including South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco, Brazil and Germany.

While Kate was not lucky to emerge victorious, the winning dress was sold at Ksh1.4 million.

The embassy urged Kenya to hold similar festivals in the country to boost the textile industry.

“Kenyan textile companies like should emulate and organize Kenyan Silk/Cotton Fashion Week and this can start with foreign embassies in Nairobi,” the embassy remarked.

Kate is a celebrated Kenyan fashion designer who draws her inspiration from Nigerian designs.

Apart from Reverend Lucy Natasha, she has dressed Nigerian actress Angela Okorie, former Miss Kenya Juliet Ochieng, radio personality Amina Abdi and musician Yemi Alade.

She is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of African Fabric and Designs Kenya Limited.

While unveiling her ambitions, she remarked during a past interview, “ I am looking to place the African print on the world map.”

“It would gladden my heart to see other people, not just Africans, embrace it,” she added.
