Relief to Students as HELB Announces New Centres of Operation

  • Students in institutions of higher learning will now easily access services from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

    This followed an announcement by the loan board on Thursday, December 1 to avail services in Huduma Centres across the country.

    In the statement made through a public notice,  HELB took the chance to wish its clients a happy new month.

    “Happy new month, HELB services are now accessible countrywide,” read the notice in parts.

    In addition, several areas where students can access services include, Nairobi-GPO, Machakos, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kericho, Nyeri, Embu, Kitui, Bungoma, and Lodwar.

    Others are Meru, Thika, Kitale, Kisii, Nandi, Murang’a, Garissa, Narok, Migori, Chuka, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, West Pokot, Bomet and Makueni.

    On the notice, HELB provided a list of cybercafes in specific Huduma Centres offering select services. They include, City Square, Makadara, Kibera, Eastleigh, Baringo, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Isiolo, Kakiado, and Kirinyaga.

    In addition, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Mandera, Marsabit, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Samburu, Siaya, Tana River, Vihiga and Wajir are also on the list.

    “The Huduma Kenya cybercafé standard charges will apply. HELB will not charge any additional fee for this service,” read part of the notice.

    The announcement came days after Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa delivered her promise to make Huduma Centers operational for 12 hours a day.

    “From December 5, 2022, we shall start serving Mwananchi from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm. We shall commence with 18 branches around the country,” read the statement dated Tuesday, November 29.

    Before the directive, Huduma Centers operated from 8 am to 5 pm.
