A high school teacher in Nyamira County on Sunday, February 19, died by suicide after he jumped into a well in Tinga market.
The body of the deceased, a teacher of English at Nyakuro High School was discovered floating on the water reservoir. Officers also recovered a suicide note from the deceased.
In the note, he revealed that he had been threatened multiple times by a woman, who expressly vowed to end his life.
“I have not been myself since I was threatened via SMS by (name withheld) who said killing me would not be a big deal. She will explain why she wants me dead,” he wrote.
The deceased claimed that his life had taken a turn for the worst, revealing that two conmen swindled him Ksh700,000.
He further listed a father and three sons whom he claimed owed him Ksh800,000 for a piece of land he sold them. The English Literature teacher claimed that there was only one way to free himself.
“I have lived a life of humiliation and desperation and now I leave in peace. My wife has other instructions on my burial,” the handwritten note read in part.
The deceased’s body was successfully retrieved from the water reservoir by a team of divers and taken to the mortuary.
Police officers launched an investigation into his death and the claims made in the suicide note with a conclusive report expected once post-mortem results are out.
Meanwhile, residents demanded that the well be fenced or permanently closed from the public as it had claimed several lives since its establishment.
A section of Kenyans including colleagues and former students eulogized him as a soft-spoken man and a great teacher who had a great impact on their lives.
