Former Nyeri town member of parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu on Monday, November 21, refuted claims of criticising Azimio la Umoja One Kenya’s running mate, Martha Karua for bringing very little to the table in the August 9 2022 presidential election.
Wambugu clarified that the Twitter account that propagated the message was fake. He noted that the fake account was trying to drive a certain narrative that was not of his views.
The former legislator also criticised media houses that had circulated the fake tweet online- calling them out for failing to do their due diligence.
“You didn’t see the tweet you are quoting is not in my name,” Wambugu stated while flagging the account.
The commentary account had attributed the loss of many seats within Mt Kenya politicians to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.
The account allegedly claimed that Jubilee politicians who supported the Azimio leader ended up losing their seats to the ruling administration.
In particular, the account castigated Karua for the loss of the presidential election- claiming that she was unable to bring 1,000 votes from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.
“Supporting Raila Odinga cost Many eloquent Leaders from Mt Kenya their seats. With their weak running mate Martha Karua who couldn’t even bring 1,000 votes.
“We have no apology. No debt. We move on with President Ruto for two terms,” read part of the statement from the parody account.
Wambugu is one of several politicians who have been the victim of pseudo-accounts which tend to propagate messages under their disguise. This in turn dupes many Kenyans online who fall prey to the narrative.
“These guys need to stop with these fake accounts. When I have something to say, I always say it; without help. I am currently selling tea and mandazi in Nyeri Town. Politics is for later,” Wambugu recently stated.
Wambugu, on the other hand, emphasized that he was busy in Nyeri, concentrating on his hotel business which opened its doors to the public on November 1.
