KPLC Announces Blackout in Kitisuru and 42 Other Nairobi Estates

  • Kenya Power, which trades under the ticker KPLC, announced that 43 estates in Nairobi would experience power interruption following a maintenance routine scheduled for Tuesday, February 7.

    In a notice, the utility firm indicated that some of the areas earmarked for maintenance would suffer power outage for 3 hours while others will experience the outage for 8 hours.

    Some of the estates to experience an eight-hour blackout include areas around Kitsuru such as Kitsuru Ridge Villas estate, Kitsuru Country Homes, Kihara Village, Old Karura Rd, Kihara Market, White Cottage School, Weaverbird Kenya, Part of Kirawa Rd, Hotani Close and Parazoro Institute.

    The maintenance is expected to commence at 9 am.

    Areas around Redhill road were also included in the scheduled maintenance. 

    Kenya Powere added that part of Nyari estate, Embassy of Switzerland, Gachie, Karura SDA Church, Hospital Hill Secondary School, Commission for University Education (CUE), Trio Est, Redhill Rd and Rosslyn Green would experience the outage for 8 hours.

    “Woodley, Prestige, Jamhuri, Ring Road Kilimani, Joseph Kangethe and adjacent schools such as Toi Primary School and Moi Girls High School in Kibera constituency will also experience the interruption,” read the notice in part.

    Other Nairobi estates to be affected by the 8-hour outage include Umoja Innercore with key areas affected such as Cathsam School, Innercore Sango, Kwa Chief Umoja Office, Umoja 2 Market, Oloibon Hotel and Unity Primary School.

    On the other hand, Thigiri Groove, Thigiri Ridge, NSIS Training, and Brookside Drive will experience interruption for three hours (from 9 am to 12 noon).

    KPLC added that Rosslyn Close, Thigiri Farm, Nyari Est, Rosslyn Heights Est, Redhill Drive & adjacent customers would also get back their normal power supply after the completion of the maintenance at 12 noon.

    However, despite Nairobi being the most affected by the scheduled maintenance, other counties such as Siaya, Kitui and Busia counties are set to experience the power outage.

    The affected areas include Butula in Busia and adjacent areas in Hono, Siaya county.
