  • Suspended Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni on Friday, February 10, initiated disciplinary action against Kanini Kega, nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege, Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo and Eldas MP Adan Keynan.

Kioni accused the lawmakers of disloyalty to the Jubilee Party and lack of respect for its organs.

They were further accused of advancing positions contrary to the party’s ideologies.

“This is to notify you that the said petition has been forwarded to the Party Disciplinary Committee as provided for by our party Constitution to process, and they will be contacting you in due course,” Kioni stated.

The Kioni-led function argued that the decision to suspend him alongside Jubilee Vice Chairperson David Murathe was against the party’s decision.

Kega, Chege, Dullo and Keynan were among the Jubilee members who met President William Ruto at State House in Nairobi on Wednesday, February 8.

Following their meeting, Ruto announced that Jubilee Party had pledged loyalty to his government.

“You have a right to make choices as Kenya is a democratic country. You are now our members and we will treat you as such,” President Ruto stated after the State House meeting.

To honour their pledge to Ruto, Jubilee lawmakers convened a Parliamentary Group meeting on Friday, February 10 where they resolved to suspend Kioni and Murathe.

Kagwe Gichohi, who served as the party’s National Treasurer, was also suspended alongside the duo.

The suspended SG was replaced by EALA MP Kanini Kega in an interim capacity. Furthermore, the Kega-led faction announced it had initiated plans to exit Azimio.

“The cases of the suspended party officials have been sent to the internal dispute resolution mechanism of the party for further review.

“The National Executive Committee engages with the ruling coalition on the possibility of creating a working cooperation arrangement with it,” a statement from Jubilee Party read in part.
