  • Kenol town in Murang’a County has registered steady growth in the past years, showing positive signs of growing into the next satellite town on the outskirts of Nairobi.

Despite missing out on real estate reports depicting burgeoning satellite towns in the recent past, Kenol manifests signs of growth in real estate and other interests, including retail and hospitality.

From multinational food chains to retail chains and banking institutions, the urban centre has attracted a wide range of investments to affirm the growth rate.

The completion of the Kenol Marua Road is further expected to enhance its accessibility and cement its position as the gateway to Nairobi and the access point for all Mount Kenya counties.

Further, the Murang’a County government has earmarked Kenol as one of the urban centres to benefit from the ‘Smart City’ program aimed at upgrading roads, street lighting, sewerage systems and public housing.

The plan by the Murang’a County government was conceived in anticipation of the town’s potential for growth.

The robust road network connecting the town to Nairobi via the Thika Superhighway makes it a better option for some Nairobi estates bedevilled by traffic gridlock. Kenol’s environment is also relatively calm and free from the constant noise in some estates in the capital.

These features, among others, have attracted residents working from as far as Nairobi, Thika Town- 17 kilometres away- and other satellite towns along the Thika Superhighway.

A spot-check by Kenyans.co.ke established that real estate companies and private developers have turned to the town with hopes of reaping from the projected growth.

A classic example is the establishment of the multi-billion Thika Greens Golf Estate situated a few kilometres from Kenol, which features various amenities, including golf courses, hotels and an array of residential units.

Due to the demand for housing units, the developer of the posh estate stated that land rates in the area showed the potential of shooting upwards at a rate of up to seven times, depending on the proximity to the golf course and other amenities.

Other major projects completed in the recent past include the Kilele Mall and a host of entertainment joints, including the popular restaurant which opened a branch in 2022.
