  • Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) projected the rehabilitation of Mombasa Road to be completed before January 1, 2023.

In a statement dated Saturday, November 19, the agency indicated that the road needed an uplift given the damages that were occasioned during the construction of the Nairobi Expressway.

Repairs would be done by both the developer who built the 27-kilometre highway and the other government agencies.

KeNHA earmarked footpaths and drainages for repair.

“There are damages to the existing road and road reserve at various locations that were caused by relocation works, including water and sewer pipes relocation, power lines relocation and ICT fibre cables relocation works, which were carried out by the respective government utility companies.

KeNHA has committed funds for these repair works and continues coordinating with the government utility companies to ensure they effectively attend to their assigned repair works.

Additionally, the road agency added that there were plans to add more footbridges to safeguard road users, especially pedestrians.

The five additional footbridges will be built along Mlolongo, Airtel/Southern Bypass Interchange, and the Westlands section.

In Westlands, the footbridges will be erected between Aga Khan School and the junction to Brookside Drive.

KeNHA will construct the bridges in phases to avoid traffic disruptions.

Nairobi Expressway was officially launched for public use on July 31 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
