KDF Announces Mass Auction of Vehicles; How to Bid

  • The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Tuesday, December 6, announced a mass auction of motor vehicles and other unserviceable equipment. 

    KDF indicated that the mass auction will be carried out in at public yard in Thika Garrison, Lanet, Nanyuki and Mtongwe, Manda, Diani and Kiunga.

    In an auction notice by the Head of Supply Chain, KDF indicated that it is auctioning hundreds of vehicles alongside other items which are considered equipment and general stores.

    “Ministry of Defence invites bids for the underlined vehicles, equipment and general stores,” the notice read in part.

    How to bid

    In the notice, the vehicle and general stores will be viewed as from December 19, 2022.

    The vehicles include various models such as land rovers among many other types of cars.

    “Eligible and interested bidders are invited to submit their bids,” the statement from KDF read.

    KDF also warned Kenyans of cons who may want to take advantage of the process in order to steal from unsuspecting members of the public.

    Prospecting bidders were urged to strictly use KDF website and the listed barracks as the only points for submission of bids.

    KDF warning came against the backdrop on Kenyans who continue to lose money and property to auctioneers, amid tough economic times witnessed across the country.

    A number of governmental agencies announced mass auction of vehicles of various types and models.

    On September 28, 2022, Kenya Revenue Authority announced mass action of vehicles of all types and models including Toyota Prados, Land Cruisers, Mercedes Benz, Land Rover Range, and Audi. Others included Suzuki Wagons, Subaru outbacks, Mazdas, Toyota Hilux among others.

    “Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, notice is given that unless the undermentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Kilindini within thirty (30) days of this notice, they may be sold by public auction on September 29,2022,” read part of the notice from KRA.
