  • Newly elected Jubilee Party Secretary-General (SG) Kanini Kega summoned suspended SG Jeremiah Kioni and Vice Chair David Murathe to appear before the disciplinary committee.

Speaking at the party headquarters on Wednesday, February 15, Kega revealed that Kioni, Murathe and ousted National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi had already been served the summons by the party.

“We were substantively put in office by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and will make sure that the disciplinary process takes place.

“The party has already communicated to them and hopes that in due course, they will be able to appear before the organs charged with that responsibility,” Kega stated.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) further promised that the three would be treated fairly.

Kega stated that the new party leadership would call the house to order and also banned Jubilee Party members from engaging in any political activities organised by the coalition party as the rift within the opposition intensifies.

“We have advised our members of the National Assembly and the Senate as well as NEC members to desist from attending any meeting that will create chaos and bring disruption in the country,” the new SG stated.

He explained that the bad blood was caused by continuous discrimination of Jubilee in the coalition citing unfair allocation of slots in Parliamentary leadership and committee positions.

Kega was confirmed as the new SG by the party chair Nelson Dzuya. Eldas MP Adan Keynan and Kitui South counterpart Rachel Nyamai were named Vice Chair and National Treasurer respectively.

Murathe, on the other hand, laughed off his ouster terming it as an attempted takeover of the party in a bid to weaken the opposition.

He dared Kega to evict him from office ‘if he was man enough’. Furthermore, he confirmed that his allegiance was with Azimio and vowed to continue backing the opposition as it pushed its agenda.

A loyalist of party leader, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, also promised to stick with Azimio chief Raila Odinga to the very end.
