  • East African Legislative Assembly lawmaker Kanini Kega opened up about the future of the Jubilee party and working with President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview with Inooro TV, Kega revealed plans to hold further talks with Ruto on how they would work together.

He referenced alleged mistreatment that members of the Jubilee Party were subjected to after joining Azimio la Umoja Coalition, led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“People should stop accusing us of quitting Jubilee but if we will be respected in Kenya Kwanza and recognized then we will have a talk with them. We have not yet begun talking about it.

No one has announced that we are leaving our party. All we want is to be recognized as a party. ODM has mistreated us in big ways since we joined them. They don’t give us what belongs to us. They always tell us that we even did not vote for them,” he noted.

The vocal EALA Member of Parliament noted that as the acting Jubilee Secretary General, the mandate of the party was to make it strong to outlive its party leader, former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

In addition, Kega warned leaders who have been pointing fingers at them for meeting Ruto at State House and discussing development matters.

“We want Jubilee to be bigger than the party leader. We went to the state house as MPs elect. Visiting state house is not a big deal because we accepted Ruto as the president.

I watched through the TV when Ruto was sworn in, I could not go near Kasarani because I was so angry for being on the losing end.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga welcomed Ruto in Nyanza, we should also be freely allowed to visit Ruto any time we want,” he added.

On February 13, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) ratified the ouster of Jeremiah Kioni and David Murathe as Jubilee Party officials.

ORPP made the statement when acknowledging receipt of the resolutions reached during the Jubilee Party National Executive Council meeting held on February 10.

Addressing the same, Kega noted that the two (Kioni and Murathe) were suspended following a summon by the party committee after they violated some of the party’s rights.

“If found guilty they will be forwarded to the national delegates conference but if found not guilty will resume their positions.

During the suspension period, they will receive half their salary. If Kioni reports to the office, he should no longer do so because he might interfere with evidence since he has several cases against him, especially on financial matters,’ he uttered.

Kega also acknowledged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as Mt Kenya’s kingpin stating that Uhuru no longer had influence in the vote-rich region.
