Kameme Tv show host Ngugi wa Karanja, in liaison with a real estate company, handed a 63-year-old bachelor identified as Njuki, a new house.
The duo presented a modern house to Njuki replete with basic amenities like a kitchen and washroom. The house, which has visible brick, was painted grey in its exterior and decorated with blue and yellow balloons.
The bachelor, who hails from Murang’a County, was living in deplorable conditions in his one-roomed mud hut that serviced his every need.
The rundown grass-thatched hut was in a dilapidated state and covered with rusted iron sheets from which he collected his domestic water from.
Overwhelmed by the nice gesture, the man, whose look was overhauled after he received new clothes and shoes, was stunned to speak.
“I feel like I am the first person to get a new house. I will no longer feel the cold. I love how clean the house looks.
“My old house looks like no one lived in it. I think it is one of the reasons I did not get married. People would think I was blind,” he remarked with a wide smile on his face.
The 63-year-old was also excited to cook using a gas cylinder for the first time adding, “It is automatic, you just light the matchbox and it is done.”
According to the real estate agency, the house was built using interlocking bricks that are not only affordable but also durable and strong.
“With these bricks, we only took two weeks to complete the job unlike in areas where we use the common bricks that take months.
“This house is similar to a one-bedroom unit. It may cost about Ksh500,000, which makes it affordable to the aspiring homeowner,” noted a member of the real estate company
While presenting the house to the man on February 10, the duo heaped praise on other well-wishers that contributed to making Njuki’s dream come true.
Ngugi wa Karanja hosts the Kwibanga Show on the vernacular TV station that airs between 10 pm and 12 am. He also doubles as an MC as well as running a show on YouTube.
