  • Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka Wednesday, December 7, criticized the move by Nairobi Governor Johnson  Sakaja and President William to declare a purge on nightclubs in residential areas within Nairobi.

Kalonzo, while addressing a public consultation rally at Kamukunji Grounds, decried that the move would deprive millions of city dwellers of their sources of livelihood who had resorted to the entertainment sector due to unemployment.

While revisiting Kenya Kwanza’s mantra which vowed to protect all jobs in the country, the former Vice President called for consultations before effecting the ban to evaluate the effects of the move on the people employed in the sector.

“I want to tell my friend Sakaja, go slow on this. The youths, out of unemployment, settled on restaurants and lounges as their source of livelihood yet you want to force a ban. We understand your aim but we want public consultation first,” he stated.

He also defended churches and other places of worship which had been put next on the line in the crackdown.

Kalonzo questioned why the Kenya Kwanza leadership was targeting churches months after their campaigns which he noted were anchored on the premise of defending places of worship.

In addition, Kalonzo noted that the Azimio la Umoja fraternity was prepared to stand up against any attempts by the government to violate the constitution and the law in general. However, he asked the coalition’s supporters to maintain peace in their demonstrations while keeping the government of the day in check.

He cited the recently rolled out Hustlers Fund as one of the instances where the government under the stewardship of President William Ruto had infringed the law.

The Wiper leader joined other principals affiliated with the coalition in calling upon Kenyans to default the Ksh50 billion funds introduced by the government to offer affordable credit to Kenyans.

“I have heard you vowed that you will not pay back the loans under the Hustlers Fund, let me tell you why you should not be worried. The fund lacks any legal framework or appropriation as required,” Kalozo told the crowds present at the historic grounds.

The relationship between the Executive and the Judiciary also caught the attention of Kalonzo, describing it as an indication of a compromised of independence of state organs.

Kalonzo was flanked by Azimio principals including Orange Democratic Movement Leader Raila Odinga, NARC Kenya’s Martha Karua and Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya’s Eugene Wamalwa and Julibee’s Jeremiah Kioni among others.
