  • Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo’s post on a Masters degree graduate selling flowers elicited debate on social media.

In a post on Tuesday, December 13, Kabogo asked Kenyans to help him find the graduate – only known as Micheal- formal employment.

The former county boss explained that Micheal needed to practice his academic skills, having graduated as a Human Resource(HR) practitioner.

“This young hustler Michael is an HR degree holder and also has a Masters in HR. He is now selling flowers as a job. Let us try to get him a place to utilize his studies,” he stated.

Consequently, Kenyans took to social media to air their views over Kabogo’s request with many noting that Micheal’s story was a reflection of the current state of unemployment in the country.

Others also urged the governor to share the academic papers so that they could assist in securing employment for the HR graduate.

A section of online users, however, called on Kenyans to shift their perception of blue-collar jobs.

In particular, a number of people noted that one could earn a decent living and even make millions if one worked in the informal sector.

“He’s in the right place. Let him use his training to scale up the business. Get him capital if you can,” Victor Otieno commented on the post.

The country’s education system also took centre stage as others called on the government and universities to train students for self-employment.

“Such a young man needs empowerment. With his education, he can do online jobs so long as you empower him with a laptop with free internet,”

“Currently, jobs are scarce due to population,” Waweru Jayson echoed.
