  • Suna East MP, Junet Mohamed, halted the voting process for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) seats at the National Assembly on Thursday, November 17.

The MP claimed that some of the votes read were inaccurate and should have been treated as spoilt votes.

“I want to interrupt the vote counting. There is no way that Azimio can have zero votes,” Junet complained.

“I’ve heard somebody say Kenya Kwanza – 5 Azimio 0. What is that, does it mean that nobody voted for Azimio? That must be a spoilt vote!” he posed.

He further condemned those that failed to vote, saying,” Shame on you, and may God punish you.”

However, the National Assembly minority whip was shut down by the acting speaker, Rachel Nyamai.

“Junet, you are out of order. The clerk is reading the paper as it is, so it means that on the side of Azimio, the  MP did not indicate a vote.

Therefore I would like to request that we proceed with the counting,” acting speaker Rachel Nyamai stated.

Notably, Members of Parliament at both the Senate and the National Assembly voted for their preferred candidates.

Winnie Odinga, the last-born daughter to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, was elected by the Senate on Thursday, November 17.

The process was overseen by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge and Jeremiah Nyegenye from the Senate.

MPs at the National Assembly were yet to vote and confirm the names by the time of publishing.
