The Sovereign Hotel in Kisumu, which gained fame for hosting government officials, politicians, and other dignitaries, is set to be auctioned off on March 8, 2023.
According to a notice by Colinet Auctioneers, the property was put on auction to recover undisclosed millions of shillings defaulted by the directors of the hotel.
It comprises a tripple storied building, a double-storey semi-detached hotel annex, a detached double-storey annex, and a terraced swimming block.
“We will sell the following properties, together with buildings and improvements standing and erected thereon, at auction under instructions received from our client,” the auction notice stated.
Moreover, a VIP suite, three apartments, 26 standard rooms, three deluxe rooms, a conference room, a bar and restaurant, and a swimming pool are all part of the hotel.
The Dettached annex overlooks the Impala Wildlife Sanctuary and is within walking distance of Lake Victoria.
According to the hotel’s official website, founded in 2013, it specialises in continental cuisine, Indian cuisine, Japanese sushi, and teppanyaki.
With 15 percent off the normal pricing, single rooms in the hotel go for Ksh17,047 for a night, while a double room goes for Ksh19,573.
An executive room goes for Ksh21,467, and an apartment suite guest part with Ksh17,047.
Built on 0.8 acres of land, the hotel offers its clients beauty services, including a steam room, massage room, and spa.
“Our massage room offers massage and beauty treatment choices range from deep tissue massage to hot-stone massage, from facials to pedicures, and more,” Sovereign hotel stated on their website.
Moreover, the hotel hosts various events, including informal events like wedding parties, birthday parties, and cocktails.
For formal events, meetings, and conferences, the hotel has three large conference rooms for hire.
Following its auction notice, the 5-star hotel opened its partly sheltered swimming pool for Kisumu residents on the weekends.
