Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS) Japhet Koome on Thursday, December 8, confirmed that the police were acting on a case where a man was captured in a video threatening his employee at a lounge in Kitengela.
According to a statement signed by Deputy IG Noor Gabow on behalf of Koome, the police had commenced investigations into the matter, which had caused an uproar.
The police boss asked the unidentified lady in the video to file a formal complaint at any police station to enable them to expedite investigations into the matter.
“The National Police Service has noted a distasteful video clip circulating on social media showing a man alleged to be the owner of Rixxos Lounge in Kitengela threatening a female employee demanding her unpaid salary.
“In accordance with our mandate to serve and protect all citizens, we have commenced our investigation into the matter,” read the statement in part.
Further, the police boss assured the public that the law would be applied to everyone regardless of social networks or status.
The video of the purported club owner went viral, with a section of Kenyans on social media calling on the police to apprehend the man.
“There is this owner of Rixxos Lounge in Kitengela who is arrogant to the employees.
“He is going to an extent of threatening an employee and will be taken nowhere because he speaks to the President direct,” Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai stated.
In the video, the man was filmed arguing with the lady demanding unpaid dues from the boss.
He was also heard threatening to use his influence and network to frame the lady.
“I am not paying you, do you think you can take me anywhere, listen I talk to the President directly. If I resolve to take action against you you will regret it, I will not pay you,” the man stated to an emotional lady.
