On Saturday, November 26, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga underwent a knee surgery in India and was full of praises for Yashoda Hospital’s doctors.
In an interview with a media outlet in South Asian country, the first-time Senator hailed the quality of their services in line with its cheap price tag.
Unknown to many, however, is a role that Oburu’s younger brother and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, played in according him quality services in India.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Sunday, November 26, Indian Investor and longtime Raila ally, Byragoni Sreenivas Goud, confirmed that the former Prime Minister contacted him via a phone call.
The former Presidential hopeful explained Oburu’s predicament noting that he had, for a long time, sought treatment in Kenyan hospital to no avail.
Goud then linked the Senator to Yashoda Hospital.
“India hospitals are good, affordable and treat well with experienced doctors. Kenyans are encouraged to seek help from us and come here.
“We always help anyone seeking medication in India. In US you can pay 10 times of services here in India,” he explained.
Oburu travelled to India on November 7, 2022 where the surgery was conducted in the subsequent days.
“I have been given the best treatment here and I am recovering well. I have been treated in Kenyan hospitals before but I prefer here in India, this is because the treatment here is not only good but very cheap.
“Kenyan hospitals overcharge people in treatment of even simple diseases, that is why you find Kenyans flocking India for treatment. I could have been treated back home but it would have costed me three times what I have paid here at Yashoda Hospital,” stated Oburu.
The Senator was treated by Dr Dasaradha Rama Reddy Tetali, a medical powerhouse with over 30 years experience in the sector and serving as Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Yashoda Hospitals.
He specialises in Joint Replacement Surgery, Arthroscopy, and Sports Medicine.
Perched in India, Yashoda Hospital has been in existence for three decades and has expanded its portfolio to include four independent hospitals and has a combined 4,000 bed capacity.
The Rosemary Odinga Factor
A few months prior, Goud also played a critical role in linking up Raila’s daughter Rosemary Odinga to Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital where her eyesight was restored.
At the time, in March 2022, Goud played an important role in guiding Rosemary to the hospital.
“Mr Byragoni was very instrumental in guiding Rosemary to the correct place for the cure which is Sreedhareeyam. He was the key figure in bringing the two poles together for a noble cause of bringing back the lost vision,” Dr Sreekanth Namboothri, who was part of the team that operated on Rosemary, told Kenyans.co.ke‘s John Mbati at the time.
