  • Beloved Kameme TV journalist Agnes Nonsizi is one of the most recognised faces in the media industry but not many Kenyans know that she started out as a receptionist at a media school and music facility.

The host had just finished her media studies and was starting out in her career. She served as a receptionist in two places before landing her job at the vernacular station.

In an interview with Metha ya Kagoni, the journalist narrated her journey before her breakthrough and detailed her job as a journalist and TV show host.

“I did not get an internship. I was at home. I got my first job as a receptionist at a media school. I then left the place to J. Blessing’s company, also as a receptionist. Then I moved to Ogopa Studios.

“At the studios I got the strong urge to read the news, especially in the vernacular. I would download news items from Media Max and record myself in the studio booth,” she narrated.

While working at the studios, Nonsizi learnt that Media Max was recruiting and she sent in her papers awaiting the call from the media house.

“I received the letter from the HR at Media Max. I was in shock at first. During the interview, they asked me about my history and I told them I was into music and music shows.

“However, they told me that all the music shows were occupied and they asked if I can host a reggae show. I confidently told them yes. It was a challenge but I managed,” she recalled.

She further noted that in media, an individual ought to grow and expand their horizons. Due to this, she moved to another vernacular station Mt Kenya TV where she took on the role of a producer.

“At Mt Kenya TV, I grew as a journalist and a person. For the six months, I was there, I handled large groups from the camera crew to the video. I can attribute who I am today to that experience,” she remarked.

Nonsizi returned to Kameme TV in 2021 to replace Wangeci Wa Kariuki who hosted the morning show.

On Kameme TV, she hosts the Kwibarita show which airs on Friday, and Rikiratha, a breakfast show airing from 6 am to 10 am Monday to Friday show.

The Rikiratha show covers a wide variety of topics from politics to newspaper reviews as well as hosting expert guests while the Kwibarita show is an entertainment segment that airs on Friday morning.

The publicist prides herself as a communication strategist, event host, and moderator. She also has a show on YouTube, the Agnes Nonsizi Show.
