  • The Eastleigh Business Community has called on Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to intervene in the police shooting case involving Ahmed Rashid.

Speaking on Tuesday, November 29, the Business Community argued that Rashid is a key member of the Eastleigh community and should therefore be left alone to preserve the area’s security.

Led by their Chairman Ahmed Abdullahi, members of the community sought the President’s intervention on the arrest warrant of police officer Rashid.

Abdullahi wants the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to withdraw its case against Rashid citing his role in preserving the area’s security.

While speaking at the event where he was the chief guest Defence CS indicated that Eastleigh was a victim of state capture by the previous administration.

According to Duale, Eastleigh residents have been prohibited from selling milk with some of their merchandise being branded as contraband.

“We want to assure residents of Eastleigh that every Kenyan regardless of where they come from will have an equal opportunity and conducive environment to conduct business,” he asserted.

On Sunday, November 27, Omar Ibrahim, the Secretary of the Eastleigh Business District Association, argued that initially, one could not walk around freely in Eastleigh due to the area being infiltrated by several criminal gangs, some heavily armed.

“Before Ahmed Rashid was deployed to this area, Eastleigh was inhabitable, people have forgotten about “Super Power”, they thrived in Eastleigh and because of Ahmed Rashid they are no longer here,” he disclosed.

The move by the members of the business community comes after the revelation by IPOA that Rashid will be charged with the murder of Jamal Mohamed and Mohamed Dhair Kheri.

“IPOA has established that the fatalities were occasioned by police action,” read the statement by IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori in part.

The two suspected members of the “Super Power” gang were shot on March 31, 2017, on suspicion of engaging in crime within the Eastleigh neighbourhood.
