  • Veteran investigative journalist Dennis Okari announced his media comeback a week after parting ways with Nation Media Group-owned station NTV.

In a post the journalist shared on his social media on Wednesday, December 14, Okari revealed that he would be launching a podcast under the title, the Social Newsroom.

Okari explained that he would stick within his niche but focus more on ordinary Kenyans who make news but do not make it to the headlines.

“Every story has a hero and a villain. Usually, that hero is a regular guy in an ordinary situation doing extraordinary things.

“My job is to tell stories that inspire change, stories that matter to you. Welcome to the future,” Okari stated in the teaser.

The show will premier on Thursday, December 15, at 6pm on all his social media platforms and YouTube channel. He will jointly host the show with his former colleague Mark Masai.

Okari and Masai’s show will be produced by SemaBox Africa, a media production company that focuses on podcast production.

His announcement came two days after Masai unveiled the show explaining that it would explore a different style of journalism.

“It has always been about the who, what, where, when, why and how. But in the times we are living in, there is a big so what?” the former NTV presenter declared.

The two journalists were at the forefront of using the shift from traditional media to the digital space.

Some of the intrigues behind their release from the Kimathi-based media house include cost-cutting, a drop in the news platform content rankings and uncertainty in the media industry,
