  • A woman caught the attention of Kenyans online after she was captured on video blasting a police officer over bribery allegations within a residential area in Nairobi County.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the police officer and the woman engaged in a shouting march after the former claimed that she could not give up any cash to the officer.

The daring trader alleged that the officer had formed a habit of collecting bribes despite the fact that she was in possession of the requisite licenses to run her business.

“You have taken advantage of me for a long time. Who do you think you are? I will not give you any money,” the woman is heard in the video.

As the confrontation grew intense, so did the trader’s voice to the point she began shouting and whistling much to the applause from the nearby witnesses.

The police officer is later seen retreating to his vehicle as the lady showed her documents in the air.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, National Police Spokesperson Resila Atieno Onyango affirmed that the incident occurred around Ngara area in Nairobi County.

She further confirmed that the lady was arrested by detectives after the incident.

According to the spokesperson, the lady operated a pub inside a liquor store but was only licensed for the sale of liquor noting that the trader would be taken to court to answer to the charges.

When asked about whether the bribery allegations were either true or false, Onyango stated that the allegations would have to be proven in court.

The video elicited an online debate over the lady’s conduct toward the police officer as some shunned her actions while others pointed out that she would have opted to handle the matter differently.

“The truth of the matter is that after all this drama, the police will gang wait for her to open past operating hours and will come with brute force. I don’t support bribing but if she was prudent enough, she would have objected without all this drama,” a user identified as Dennis Alves stated.

“Most establishments are shutting down in our estates as you must bribe police officers on a daily basis. Many do it at the beginning until you start making losses and they don’t care shutting it in the end,” Chege Kentoz noted.

“Police officers shouldn’t allow such at the station, she can be taken in for creating disturbance within police premises,” Janet Bomett pointed out.
