Social media was awash on Thursday, February 23, after CCTV footage captured a fight that broke out inside China Square, a shopping hub located inside UniCity built by Kenyatta University.
In the footage seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the brawl began when a male shopper donning a blue shirt assaulted a female shopper while in a queue at the counter.
It is reported that the male shopper attempted to cut the queue but was abruptly stopped by the lady before the fight ensued.
Seemingly aggrieved, the male shopper assaulted the lady as the scuffle brought the whole store to a standstill.
The store’s security responded promptly and chased away the man. Reports indicated that the man was arrested by police.
The video caused a debate online as Kenyans questioned the male shopper’s conduct.
“That’s the same way they drive! They cannot wait on anyone because they are the most important. They must cut in front of others and cannot wait their turn on the roads or in The stores,” Melody Ellis posted.
“Some people are just ill-mannered and love to cut in the line, I too can’t allow you to cut ahead of me while I have been standing there for I don’t know how long,” a user identified as Tina voiced her opinion.
“People who cheated in school, wake up late, and want good things without working are the ones who overlap and jump queues,” Mercy Akpa noted.
The shopping hub has sparked debate on various social platforms owing to multi-purpose stores rivaling Eastleigh, Kamukunji and Dubois Road in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
According to various shoppers, the hub offers a one-stop shop and has stocked a wide range of products and services including stationery, furniture, home decoration items, cleaning supplies, hardware store, electrical appliances, party supplies and more.
UniCity, Kenyatta University’s project to clear its ballooning debt, features a hypermarket, retail shops, banks/ATMs, and a National Oil fuel station.
