  • Pokot South Member of Parliament David Pkosing denied funding and enabling banditry activities in the North Rift after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested him on Thursday, February 16.

After securing his release, Pkosing maintained that he was not involved in the coordinated crime.

Pkosing, elected on Kenya Union Party (KUP), an affiliate of Azimio la Umoja, revealed that he was grilled by DCI detectives over posting bonds for seven boys from Pokot who were labelled bandits by the law enforcement officers.

However, the Azimio legislator denied meeting the boys but acknowledged that he posted their bond upon release. The lawmaker noted that he felt the seven suspects had been wrongly accused.

He further clarified that the suspects were the owners of the 200 heads of cattle killed by bandits.

“What I know is that they’re innocent boys, and that is why the court had seen it fit to release them on bond,” the MP stated.

“I am a peaceful person and served in the Peace and Justice Commission before becoming an MP. Everyone is aware of that. And for the record, I have never recorded a police statement before,” Pkosing further indicated.

His lawyer Danstan Omari further denied reports that Pkosing owned the mysterious white helicopter, which reportedly lands in bandits’ hideouts supplying them with weapons.

“My client was, in a very humiliating manner, picked from the precincts of his offices, and dragged to the DCI on allegations that he is the mastermind of the banditry in North Rift Valley,” Omari stated.

“He has given his version of the story. He has never owned a white chopper, and it is all over that the alleged chopper that is supposed to be funding or transporting the bandits is white. The MP has accounted for all the days since this issue started, and that is why he has been released to go home. He’s not under any police custody,” he further clarified.

Omar lamented that Pkosing had received a text message from a senior government official warning him before he was apprehended at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC).

He further linked the arrest to a political witch hunt for his association with Azimio la Umoja.
