Area residents rushed to the scene to offer first aid to the injured passengers as they waited for the police and other relevant authorities to arrive.

Both vehicles were badly damaged in the photos shared online and had swayed away from the busy road.

Motorists were urged to exercise caution to reduce deaths during the festive season.

According to data released by the National Transport Authority (NTSA) in October 2022, 17,550 fatalities were registered between January 2022 and October 2022.

The number increased compared to the same period in 2021, where 16,642 fatalities were recorded.

Notably, in November 2022, NTSA announced new measures to be implemented to reduce the number of road accidents.

The agency noted that plans were underway to carry out audits to identify flaws in the design of major roads.

Additionally, NTSA is set to launch a nationwide campaign, Usalama Barabarani, among other education reforms, to sensitize road users.

“We are at an advanced stage to develop a curriculum which will later be introduced in schools through a collaboration with the Kenya Institute for Curriculum Development (KICD),” declared NTSA’s board chairperson Agnes Odhiambo.
