  • Nairobi’s Westlands area is regaining its lost glory as the city’s commercial hub after being in the shadows of Upper Hill which is loosely termed as the financial district.

The completion of many multi-billion projects have signalled the return of Westlands as a preferred business location.

Entering Westlands from the CBD one is greeted by monstrous earth movers which are roaring and preparing the ground for the country’s first-ever elevated road; the Nairobi Expressway.

The construction site which stretches to Sanlam Towers is a beehive of activities with workers burning the midnight oil to complete the road before President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves power in 2022.

A few meters away from Museum Hill are six imposing towers in their final stages of construction on the west side of Chiromo Lane next to Villa Rosa Kempinski.

Dubbed Global Trade Centre, the 7.5-acre development comprises a 47-level office tower, a 35-level hotel tower that will host the star-studded US chain JW Marriott hotel and four residential apartment towers of 24 to 28 levels.

After its completion, it is tipped to become Kenya’s tallest building, a crown currently held by Britam Towers in Upperhill.

The Ksh 40 billion development will also feature a 4-level boutique shopping mall connected to a 5-level podium by a 2-level bridge.

Piercing into the sky at the heart of Westlands is the One Africa Building which is coincidentally shaped like a bullet.

The building is an attraction for both onlookers and business people, with state of the art facilities such as double-glazed solar efficient glass, 6 high-speed lifts, three stand-by generators, conventional and mechanised parking systems as well as face recognition cameras.

Also along Waiyaki Way is the brown Dunhill Towers, a 20-storey development which offers one of the most elusive features in the city; parking space.

Its appearance exudes a classic yet modern design that provides warmth and character to its immediate landscape on top of a 5-level parking space.

The main building has been designed as two towers with a common connecting lobby.

Less than a kilometre up ahead is the Sanlam Tower which can be described as a perfect match of shape, style and sustainability.

The building has a number of energy-efficient and green architecture systems such as natural air conditioning and a hygizone system which involves extracting the foul air directly from the toilet by removing odour and bacteria from the source before it contaminates the washroom.

Just a stone throw away, is Le Mac an ultra-modern commercial and residential address, offering the finest features and workplace facilities.

On the Le’Mac’s ground floor, there is a banking hall and cafe while floor 1-6 is an ultra-modern open-plan office space ideal for banks, restaurants, showrooms and offices.

It offers office and retail space on the lower floors and residential apartments on the upper floors. At the rooftop is a restaurant that gives a 360 degrees amazing view of Nairobi and a swimming pool, gym, steam/sauna & spa.

The Lemac building has 8 high-speed lifts imported from top-notch manufacturers in Korea and also has ramps for easy accessibility for physically challenged people.

It is one of the few buildings in Nairobi to have a separate fireman’s lift in case of emergencies.
