  • Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Sunday, November 7, defended himself against graft charges he is facing in court – stating that the government only wanted to remove him from office.

This came nearly two years after the former Kiambu Governor was impeached on January 29, 2020, on the grounds of abusing office and engaging in corruption.

Speaking during a campaign in Kikopey, Gilgil, Waititu addressed the Ethics And Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) stating that the corruption body falsely accused him.

He further disclosed that all corrupt individuals with pending graft cases should be arraigned in court.

”They only took Sonko and me to court accusing us of theft”

”All known thieves should be taken to court. The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) scandal individuals who pocketed money meant for Covid- 19 funding, as well as the corrupt officials from the Ruaraka Primary school scandal led by Matiang’i (Fred Interior CS) who stole Ksh1.5 billion and allocated it for government property, should be taken to court ” he remarked

Baba Yao explained that if the government was really working towards fighting corruption, then all listed corrupt officials should be arraigned in court on Monday, November 8.

The former legislator stated that it was unfair for the government to only take him and Sonko to court, further stating that the motive behind the move was to remove them from office.

At the same time, he stated that Deputy President Ruto was his preferred candidate for the presidential polls. He described the DP as very efficient in his work adding that he had brought development to the country by establishing schools among other amenities.

He backed Ruto’s bottom-up model stating that it would benefit many Kenyans – and asked the congregation to elect the country’s second in command into office during the upcoming 2022 General Election.

The ex-governor expressed confidence that he would lead Kiambu and Tharaka Nithi county in ensuring that Ruto was elected as the fifth President of Kenya.
