  • The gifts President Uhuru Kenyatta promised his Burundian counterpart Evariste Ndayishimiye have finally been delivered, eight months later.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya accompanied the 50 cows to Burundi, where he presented them to Ndashimiye in a colourful ceremony.

Munya handed over the donations to Burundi’s Agriculture Minister, Deo Guide Rurema, at a function in Bugendana, Gitega Province.

Inside the gift basket was The Mandela Cow the president had promised along with dairy heifers.

Uhuru also sent through 20,000 vaccine doses of Quodivolent against Foot and Mouth Disease.

Munya also delivered 4000 straws of Semen, 1.3 Metric tonnes consisting of maize, wheat and Rhodes grass seeds and 1000 pieces of Tsetse traps.

Ndayishimiye got double blessings as three of the heifers, en route to Burundi, delivered three calves.

Uhuru promised to gift Ndshimiye the heifers on the eve of Madaraka Day in Kisumu on June 1, 2021, in the company of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

Ndashimiye’s government gave Kenya a parcel of land to build an embassy and a trade centre in return.

The foreign president had visited the country on a two-day state visit. While in Kenya, Uhuru and his Burundian ally signed a number of Memoranda of Understanding to enhance collaboration and foster foreign relations between the two countries.

The two agreed to collaborate on agriculture, livestock, fisheries, foreign affairs, and education.
