  • Monday, August 15, will forever be etched in the annals of history as Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati announced William Ruto as president-elect, in an event that was preceded by chaos.

Aside from the mayhem and political theatrics, what resonated in many people’s minds was the choir that serenaded throughout the entire session.

In particular, one of the choir members became an internet sensation for his exquisite dance moves that had the crowd spellbound.

Charismatic, comical, and acrobatic are some of the words that may describe the sheer elation expressed on his face as he danced in jubilation, despite the tense moment that had engulfed the entire nation.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Mwindu Kariuki of Safari Voices International intimated how his thrilling dance moves captivated an entire audience.

“I play in a band and am also fond of playing percussion. From time to time I take centre stage and dance,” he stated.

“The Holy Spirit came in droves and filled me,” he comically stated in response to the zeal and energy shown while dancing at the national tallying centre at Bomas of Kenya.

The reticent choir member revealed that he was surprised to be trending for the better part of Monday afternoon, at a time when politics had become the order of the day with the announcement of the presidential election results.

While revealing the challenges experienced during the performance at Bomas, the choir leader, identified as Ken, intimated that they stood for over eight hours without breaks in order to maintain the calm state at the centre.

“We started singing at 10.00 am until almost 6.00 pm in the evening, without food or water, but we were serving our country. Our nation was shaken and it’s music that brought serenity to that house.”

“The whole week, there was a lot of pressure but the music helped to calm things down. We are proud of ourselves that in the midst of it all, we were able to make the politicians stay at ease,” he stated.
