  • Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, on Sunday, November 21, told off the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga over alleged late-night calls.

Malala, who spoke during a rally in Kakamega County, Malala claimed that Odinga had frequently been callingĀ his Amani National Congress (ANC) counterpart.Ā

He further accused Raila of trying to woo Mudavadi to drop his presidential bid and support his own. Malala’s claims came after a popularity poll put the ANCs party leader’s influence at only three percent.

“Every night Raila calls Musalia asking him to support him. If Musalia has no influence, why are you calling him,” the senator remarked.

He further accused ODM of orchestrating the opinion poll to create an impression that Mudavadi had no influence so that they would use it to make him fold into an alliance with the former Prime Minister. Malala added that ANC was keen on having their party leader on the ballot.

“We have come here to tell ODM, stop calling us at night, we do not want your phone calls. We have already settled for Musalia, and he will not support Raila Amollo Odinga again,” he remarked.

Malala faulted the former premier and his team from the ODM camp for openly demeaning the ANC party leader during his tour of the Western Region.

The new developments add to the continued fallout between Raila and his former Nasa principals since their split.

The relationship between Odinga and the Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has also been on the rocks. Their recent spat was about Raila’s visit to the Ukambani region.

According to an insider, Kalonzo was against the visit. In addition, the Wiper Party also wanted to be in control of his visit, demanding to plan his trips, organise his calendar and politicians who would speak during his tour.

With a recent shake-up in the newly formed One Kenya Alliance, Raila will most likely be waiting to pick up the debris should the alliance fall apart.
