Public Service Gender and Youth Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachael Shebesh on Tuesday, December 17, met with local administrators from Nanyuki to lay the foundation for one of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal initiatives.

In a video posted by Daily Nation, Shebesh noted that her ministry had prepared a plan to deliver a declaration made by President Kenyatta during a meeting at State House on November 8, 2019, during the launch of the National Policy on the Eradication of Female Genital Mutilation.

Uhuru had declared that he would ensure that by the end of his term, the country would have won the fight against FGM.

“We met and made a plan that we believe can help us execute the presidents directive,” Shebesh stated.

She further revealed that Laikipia was the sixth county she had visited and intended to go to at least 22 others before the project was completed.

The former Nairobi woman representative claimed that she was aware that FGM was still being practised in secrecy.

“The president’s message is very clear, from the county commissioners to the assistant chiefs. Follow the law,” she delivered Uhuru’s instructions.

Shebesh then claimed that the law stated that the government would crack down those who administered the cut, parents who subjected their children to it as well as community leaders who were were part of the practice.

“As much as it has already been happening, from today they all know they have the directive of the president, as per police terms they call it amri (order),” the CAS continued.

Shebesh then revealed that the administrators who will not participate in the fight will be held liable for the girls suffer the cut.
