Raila Junior revealed in a radio interview that the first time he saw his father, he was 10 years old.Â
His father, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, was detained in 1982 after the attempted coup against former President Daniel Moi.Â
Odinga was unlawfully detained for six years after suspicion that he was involved in the failed coup.Â
I saw my father for the first time when I was 10 years old,” the Young Odinga told Massawe Japanni during a Radio Jambo interview.Â
“There were many people in my mother’s house. I was still young so I didn´t know what was going on,” he proceeded.Â
At first, Junior rebelled against his father because he had not seen him before and therefore didn’t know who he was.
In his adult life, the younger Odinga has also opposed the former PM in many instances.Â
In September 2018, Raila Junior broke ranks with ODM over its position statement on the controversial Finance Bill 2018.Â
The opposition party had stated that they would only support the Bill for a period of one year among other conditions.
“None of the conditions they’ve put up is measurable and even if they were, they are nowhere near closing the deficit on the debt,” Raila Junior noted.
He explained that he opposed his father, not that he doesn’t love him but “because I have my stand in life.”
