In a TV interview on Sunday, March 20, Prof Mutua noted that the DP had pitched camp in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region in the recent past- pouring his resources in the region in a bid to win the supporters.
He added that Odinga had a much favourable option in choosing a running mate from any part of the country as he had amassed support across various regions.
“I think for Azimio la umoja we don’t think the choice of a running mate is going to be the turning point of our campaign. We are very happy with where we are as you see in the polls. We have flexibility on our side as opposed to our competitors on the other side,” Mutua stated.
The spokesperson also intimated on Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s controversial remarks about the signing of the coalition agreement.
Mutua affirmed that Kalonzo was trying to find his positioning within the Azimio la Umoja movement hence the remarks made within the past few days.
Mutua added that the Wiper party leader’s concerns would be addressed in due course as they build a formidable force to go toe-to-toe with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
“Kalonzo knows what’s at stake in this country at the General Election. What’s happening with Musyoka is that he’s trying to find his positioning within the Azimio la Umoja movement and that’s okay,” he noted.
The spokesperson hinted at the requirements that the Azimio la Umoja seek for in the runningmate slot, noting that they had to bring the numbers to Raila’s campaign as well as someone who is ready to step in when needed.
The choice of runningmate slot is perceived by many as the make or break point for either the Azimio la Umoja movement or the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Critics and pundits have thrown their weight behind a runningmate candidate from the Mt Kenya region as the favourable choice for either faction in the run up to the General Election.
