  • Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, has broken his silence after Deputy President William Ruto’s convoy was stoned in Kondele, Kisumu County on November 10.

During an interview at a local Radio station on Thursday, November 11, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader dismissed claims that he was responsible for the fracas that broke out during the DP’s Kisumu tour.

Raila refuted the allegations that he was responsible for sponsoring the chaos, adding that it would not benefit him in any way.

“I am not a kid to go and organise people to throw stones at Ruto, why would I do that? Ruto is beneath me,” the ODM leader stated.

Raila went ahead to distance his party from the fracas, stating that the ODM party had issued a welcoming statement to Kisumu residents before Ruto made his way to the ODM party stronghold.

“Our party branch in Kisumu issued a statement asking the residents to welcome Ruto so that he could sell his agenda without any chaos,†he revealed.

Additionally, the ODM party leader asserted that the accusations by Ruto and his allies were baseless adding that the DP had a right to popularise his agenda in any part of the country.

“I do not want to comment on propaganda unless I speak the truth. Ruto is a Kenyan and he is allowed to visit anywhere in the country to sell his agenda,

“He can go to Kisumu or any anywhere the way he is roaming around. It is his right. He is a human being and he can chest thump, cough. That is okay. That is the nature of our politics in Kenya,†Raila asserted.

In an earlier TV show interview on November 11, Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua, who was in the company of Raila in a late-night meeting on Wednesday, November 10, revealed that the ODM chief was displeased over the incident.

“Raila was agitated with what happened in Kisumu and he didn’t sanction the fracas because it makes him look bad as a presidential candidate,” Mutua disclosed.

On November 8, after being evacuated by his security detail from the lakeside city, Ruto hit out at the ODM party leader for the chaos that was witnessed during his campaigns.

“Our plans and programmes will ensure that the youth are liberated from regressive stone-throwing culture by engaging them in gainful activities that will better their lives through the Bottom-Up Economic Model,” Ruto stated.
