While addressing a rally in Nyandarua county on Thursday, May 5, Raila disclosed that President Kenyatta agreed to give the former CS who resigned from her position in February a government job.
Raila divulged that he made the appeal to Uhuru after Sicily shelved her Nyandarua gubernatorial bid in favour of the incumbent governor, Francis Kimemia.
However, the ODM party boss did not reveal the exact position Kairuki will be appointed to.
“With us is former Water CS Sicily Kariuki and she was going for the gubernatorial seat. She did an honorable thing by dropping from the race and supporting Kimemia.
“I have told Uhuru that she should continue with work in Nairobi and he has agreed. Equally, we have agreed that she will serve in the Azimio government when we win,” he stated.
The former premier further stated that Sicily was a visionary leader who opted to remain in the coalition despite not clinching the Jubilee party ticket.
Raila was flanked by Kimemia, former Gatanga Member of parliament, Peter Kenneth, and Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege.
During a press briefing on April 28, Sicily stated that her decision to drop from the gubernatorial race was informed by consultations she had with the party leadership led by President Kenyatta.
She announced that she would continue serving Nyandarua residents in a different capacity.
“It’s been a lot of soul searching, consultation after another and I finally decided to sacrifice. Leadership is about sacrifice, you cannot lead people without sacrificing, and dropping my bid does not in any way mean I have no power.
“I will take another action and will serve Nyandarua people at another level,” she stated.
Sicily joined Uhuru’s cabinet after being appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Youth, and Gender Affairs in 2015.
She was later moved to Health and finally to the water and sanitation docket.
