  • Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition presidential flag bearer, Raila Odinga, has pointed an accusing finger to close allies of Deputy President, William Ruto, over the Friday incident in Uasin Gishu County where his chopper and motor vehicles were stonned.

In a statement, Raila indicated that Governor Jackson Mandago and Soy Member of Parliament, Caleb Kositany, were to blame.

The former Prime Minister claimed that he has gathered information indicating the rowdy youth had been marshalled by his political opponents to attack his plane.

“Youth attacked my plane, destroying the air shield with rocks that were clearly aimed at me. On my way to the plane, they had pelted my vehicle with stones.

“For today’s unfortunate events, I hold Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandagor and Soy MP Caleb Kositany, responsible. I call on the two, and all leaders from the region who believe in our constitution, to come out now, not later, condemn the incident and promise an end to the bizarre attempts to balkanize the country into ethnic and tribal party zones ahead of the August election,” he stated.

Raila pointed out that police were prompt in foiling further damage or harm to the people who were in his team. He further stated that the youth should exercise political tolerance and allow freedom of speech ahead of the August polls.

“I thank the security officers who did everything to ensure our safety. The attacks present a very dark reminder of what this country has witnessed before, particularly in the run-up to the 1992 elections and in the 2007-2008 polls.

“In the run-up to August, someone seems to be assembling a ragtag band of extremist youths, radicalized by lies and handouts to zone the country before pushing us into mayhem,” Raila stated.

Deputy President William Ruto also spoke on the incident, calling for political tolerance.

Ruto condemned the violence witnessed in North Rift. He condemned the attack adding that every politician has the right to sell their agenda in every part of the country.

“Kenyans should listen, evaluate their policies and then decide whom to support. We should listen, evaluate their policies and then decide whom to support,†Ruto stated.

“Political violence is retrogressive, divisive and tears down our democracy. We condemn and reject it without reservation,†he added.
