  • Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga’s diehard supporters in Migori County have come out and condemned the attacks on presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi.

The billionaire was pelted with stones and forced to cut short his speech and speed off to safety on Friday 17, in Suna, Migori County after rowdy youth accused him of “disrespecting Raila”.

Wanjigi is challenging the ODM leader for the party’s presidential ticket in the upcoming 2022 General Election, whilst calling for a free and fair nomination process.

A section of youth and Raila’s diehards in Migori have now come out and condemned the ugly incident and apologized to Wanjigi for the intolerance.

“Jimi Wanjigi has the right as Raila and Ruto to seek votes in Migori. Migori is a peaceful and beautiful place,†Jack Omondi, who identified himself as the Migori County bodaboda leader, said.

The youths regretted the incident, saying it was unfortunate considering the fact that some of them had been looking forward to the billionaire’s visit.

“We are hurt so much because some rowdy youths have tainted our names. When a visitor comes to your place, you don’t chase them, especially when they bring goodies,†one of the youth said, making reference to Wanjigi’s loyalty and regular financial support to the ODM party.

Additionally, the youth said they have narrowed down on specific individuals who hurled stones at Wanjigi and will ensure they are punished.

“How will we feel when Raila ‘Baba’ is chased from central Kenya? We are calling on to Wanjigi to come to Migori anytime including now if he wishes and we shall offer security to him,†yet another youth went on.

The youth called for tolerance, warning those who hurled stones at Wanjigi never to do the same to any other leader for it creates a bad impression about the region and makes.

The ODM party issued a statement, condemning the attacks as they called for those involved in the chaos to be brought to book.

ODM minority leader and Migori Suna East Mp Junet Mohammed condemned the incident, saying it should never happen again.

“Wanjigi is a life member of ODM, he was welcomed in Kisumu, Homa-bay and passed through Rongo sub-county. Those leaders who are using the youth to chase other politicians, you are days are numbered,” he said.
