Puzzle as Murder Suspect is Killed, Death Made to Look Like Suicide

  • A village in Nyatike, Migori County is still reeling in shock after a murder suspect was found dead next to a note addressed to his mother.

    A report by Citizen TV on Thursday, July 29, indicated that the body of Evance Juma was found hanging in the house of his neighbour.

    The man was accused of killing a form four student in the same area whose body was found dumped in a thicket on Wednesday, July 28.

    Confirming the incident, the area Chief Jane Kosome, however, ruled out suicide in the case noting that they believed the man was killed before the scene was recreated to appear as if it was a suicide.

    A note was also found next to his body addressed to Juma’s mother callously asking her to take care of his brothers and sisters.

    “Mum, I’m dead, and you will never see me again. Please take good care of my siblings,” read the note.

    The deceased student attended the St. Sabianus Owich Secondary School in Nyatike.

    The body of Juma was transferred to Migori County Referral Hospital morgue for an autopsy as police commenced investigations into the incident.

    Suicide and homicide cases have been on the rise across the country in the past year as a result of the tough economy brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

    It is estimated that 483 individuals committed suicide in the three months ending June 2021 raising concerns over mental health across the country.

    Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti called on the state to commission research on the cause of the worrying trend.

    “We have never recorded such a high number of suicides before and this is not only alarming but calls for urgent remedial measures,†stated Kinoti.

    Elsewhere, a police officer, Corporal Ali Kofa Wayu. was found dead inside his rental house by the building’s caretaker in Isinya, Kajiado County.

    The officer had reportedly disclosed that he was not feeling well before he was found lying dead on his bed on Thursday, July 29, at 12:30hrs.

    “Earlier the said tenant had indicated to him that he was not feeling well. Upon checking, he found the said tenant lying dead on his bed.

    “NPS (National Police Service) officers comprising of Isinya SCPC Charles Chepkonga, OCS Kitengela Mutuku, Officer Commanding DCI (OC DCI) Kitengela IP Lebiks, Base Commander Kitengela IP Galgitele, SOC personnel among other officers visited the scene and found the body of Ali Kofa Wayu lying dead on his bed with no visible physical injuries,” read the police report in part.
