The politician identified as Mark Bowen, popularly known as Sawachan, was found on the morning of Saturday, May 7, along the Eldoret-Malaba road.
He was later pronounced dead upon arrival at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret.
The police officer revealed that the deceased was found with serious head injuries and had a broken leg less than 24 hours after he was spotted while healthy on Friday, May 6.
Speaking to the press, Uasin Gishu county police commander Ayub Gitonga confirmed that investigations into the incident had been launched.
“Investigations have already commenced and in the fullness of time we shall be able to ascertain the circumstances under which he died,†he told Nation.
Bowen’s death comes as a shock to the political circles in the Rift Valley Region. He passed away barely a month after he was awarded the UDA ticket to contest for the position in Sambirir ward.
Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen was among the individuals who called for speedy investigations noting that he was shocked with the death.
He further argued that Bowen had a bright future in politics before his life was cut shot.
“He had won the nomination and had a promising future in politics. This is a sensitive issue and we are calling the police to unearth the cause of his death.
“At the same time, we should not speculate because it is in the best interests of the family, supporters and friends to be told the truth,†he stated.
The incident succeeds two other deaths of UDA politicians which occurred within the month of April. The first was that of Wesley Kogo, who was eyeing the Nandi Hills parliamentary seat has passed on.
Kogo died after being involved in a tragic road accident in Kangemi, Nairobi.
The other was of Nancy Wanjala Mwashumbe who passed away on Thursday night April 7. She was travelling to attend her brother’s burial when she was involved in a road accident near Voi at Ngutunyi along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
